Did Someone Lose A Tool?

Front clip with bracket

We found it.

This is the tool we found in Harley while prepping the shell for primer. It looks like one of those tools that had sockets/tips that fit over the end and locked in place when the bearing popped into place with the attached socket or tip. I'm sure it isn't as old as the car. It looks to be from the late 60s or maybe 70s era. So the theory is that when they were restoring the car previously someone dropped it in the shell and never bothered to retrieve it or forgot where they left it. Of course, I could be wrong. Dale, if it is your tool let me know and I will return it :-) I'm keeping the butter knife and the radio block off plate that we found, though! Ha Ha.

The evening of April 19th, while most Wisconsinites were out eating their Friday night fish, we were finishing up the painting of Harley's shell. The hood, decklid, doors, and fenders will get painted separately along with some other odds and ends. The original color was Panama Beige. I haven't been able to find a good picture of a Panama Beige car so I'm not sure how well the paint matches. We did take an original paint sample along with the L code to the paint mixer,  and the pictures show what they came up with. The lighting of the shed makes it look a little greenish but when I open the garage door it looks beige in color. The camera pictures turned out grayer looking than it really is. It's strange how the different lighting affects it.

As our painter was spraying the shell a nest of hornets apparently hatched and we had little baby hornets appearing from inside the shell. For the life of me I don't know how they survived the constant noise, hammering, sanding, and blowing of compressed air on the shell. Nick and I crawled all over/under the shell and never saw their nest. A person would think that they would have showed up before the painting with all of the activity going on. The shell has been in a heated garage for the last 2 months and we never saw one hornet before this. It's a mystery. I guess it's Murphy's Law that they would start to hatch while we were painting it.  We think they should be dead now by the smell of the paint and I haven't seen one since that night.

Our painter will be back to finish the rest of the painting of the other parts later in the week. We'll start on the chasis next and see how far along we get. This is the correct chasis for Harley. The other chasis that we completed was for Norbert. We want to use Harley's chasis but our plan was if we ran short on time we would use Norbert's in order to make the show in Michigan. It looks like things are going smoothly enough that we won't have to do that.
