Ralph
1957 Deluxe Oval Window Beetle
We've named our newest addition Ralph, in honor of Nick's uncle who loved old cars. Ralph was purchased new at Handy Motors in New Brunswik and spent most of his life on Martha's Vineyard. He was used on the island when the family vacationed there. He was lovingly tucked away in a barn when not in use. Because of the care he received, he is in very good condition. The original paint is a little oxidized but with a little buffing it will come back ok.
The engine was rebuilt and has 1,000 miles on it. The body and chasis has 54,000 original miles. The interior is original, too. Ralph left New Jersey in 1994 to live with a collector who stored him in an airplane hangar and continued the good care that Ralph deserved. We bought Ralph on May 1st, 2002.
We intend to leave Ralph as is for a while. Eventually, we will redo the headliner, fix the dents and dings, and repaint.
Enjoy the pictures. Remember this is a 1957 Beetle that has no rust holes! Believe me we looked in all of the usual places looking for rust holes and all we found was surface rust.
