4th Annual Fox Valley All Volkswagen Show
Van Dyn Hoven Imports
Appleton, WI
Saturday, August 2, 2003

Sponsored by Northern Wisconsin Chapter (NWVC) of Vintage Volkswagen Club of America
and Van Dyn Hoven Imports, Appleton.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the show on Saturday as well as all of you who took time out of your busy schedules to come to the show or participated in the show. A huge thank you to Van Dyn Hoven Imports for their support and sponsoring our show. I hope that some of the new members were able to meet other club members. The final show car count was 85, but as in years past there were quite a few parked along the frontage road that should have been entered in the show.

WFRV/ TV Channel 5 (Green Bay) was on the lot taking pictures of the cars in the first couple of rows. A few of the club members and show participants said they saw us that afternoon on TV. Club member, John Benz from Wautoma (71 Blue Ghia) was interviewed by them. If the Porsches had showed up they would have had front row coverage. One brave Porsche showed up and took home the Best of Class trophy - a 2 liter Porsche 914 owned by Steve Kirschner of Fond Du Lac.

Krause Publications (publisher of Old Cars Weekly) from Iola was on the lot taking photographs, as well. The photographer advised they are planning on doing a book about Volkswagens in the future. He will be contacting some of the cars owners to talk to them about their VWs.

There were a few vendors and this year we added a Kettle Korn (Ernie & Roger's Kettle Korn from Stoughton) vendor to tie us over until Louy (the brat guy from Appleton) could get to the show around 11:30 am. Louy works College Ave the night before so it is a struggle for him to get to the show before 11:30 am. There was a coloring contest for the kids. Some of the adults colored some great pictures, too. The threat of an afternoon thunderstorm was lingering by around 11 am so we decided to try to get everyone on their way by 2 pm.

We announced the Dune Buggy class awards first so they could leave since the rain was looking to be inevitable at this point. We were able to finish the awards ceremony by 1:40 pm so everyone was able to leave before any rain or storms hit. I was told that the rain arrived around 3 pm so everyone was able to get on the road before it hit. The timing seemed to work well and everyone seemed to be relieved that they didn't have to sit and wait for the award ceremony. If you have been to quite a few shows, then you know that the afternoon tends to drag while you are waiting on the award ceremony. Each year I have tried to trim down the time to make for a better show. This year we ended an hour earlier than scheduled.

Howard, thank you for sponsoring our campout prior to and after the show. Also, thank you for providing the corn for the corn roast on Saturday night. I don't think there was anyone who went away hungry that night. The corn was fantastic. If you have never been to Howard's VW Farm for a campout or just to sit around the campfire for a couple hours, you are missing a fun time. You really do get to know club members and resources that are available when you come to these events.

Jenny, thank you for the brownies. We might have to take up a collection for a brownie fund since they are so popular. You must be baking brownies every week now.

Thanks to everyone for keeping the VW hobby alive in Northern Wisconsin by participating in the club events!

Just want to say thank you to all who brought cars, all who came as spectators, and all who came to check out the swap stuff. What a great show with such a great selection! Thanks to all the other clubs for coming. Especially those dune buggy people who trusted the weather!! Thanks to those who did not party too hardy the night before and could still make the show!!

Sherri, special thanks to you and Sean for organizing a great event!

And special thanks to Howard and his family for the invite to his farm. I hope you all had as much fun as we did!!

Thank you for hosting a great VW show this past weekend.  Dave, the kids, and I all had a great time.
The parking area on the west side of the building was a great  area to have the show. Everyone at the show were very friendly and informative on the information we were looking for.  Thank you again for a great afternoon.

Back at our hotel while we were waiting for the monsoon to stop we had the TV on and we saw the news coverage for the show.  They called it a Bug Show but they showed mostly Ghia's and Dune Buggies with one row of Beetles.  They also showed some closeups of the front VW emblem on a Bus.  They did interview one person and that was John Benz with his Blue ''71' Ghia.  Hats off to all who helped put on the great show.
