NWVC'S Third Annual VW Spring Cruise-In and Cruise-Out

Saturday, May 8, 2004

Thanks go to Brian Zuhse for planning our spring cruise-in and cruise-out. We met at JD's Family Restaurant in Appleton. Some of us had a snack or ice cream or both. After some VW talk inside and outside several members lined up for a cruise through Appleton led by our fearless Brian Zuhse. The weather was nice while we were at JD's but big rain drops started to come down on us after we left for the cruise. Dale was tempting the weather gods with his top down so we had to pull over right away to get his top up in a hurry. We took off North towards College Ave and Lawrence University hoping to get a few thumbs up and waves. The streets were a little quiet because of the gray weather but a wedding party was coming out of the Lawrence Chapel and we gave them a VW honking to congratulate the wedding couple. We then made our way through downtown Appleton and to Richmond. The excitement of the cruise was when Hubert was stuck on the College Ave railroad tracks just before the Richmond street turn because of a red light and a train was coming. Of course, the light changes when a train is coming but a few behind us were worried it wouldn't change. We made our way across to the Oneida St Skyline Bridge and South to Waverly Beach Bar on Lake Winnebago. A few of us stayed for a drink and watched the heavy downpour for a bit before heading on our way home. Thanks to everyone for taking time out from their busy schedules to join us and promote our club.
