NWVC CAMPOUT AND PICNIC
Menominee Park and Howard's VW Farm, Oshkosh
June 21 & 22, 2002
Just a quick report for you on the NWVC picnic in Oshkosh. The
weather cleared up in time for us to have a beautiful afternoon. The volleyball
courts were
wet so some youngsters brought their inner tubes and used them there! I think
a few made it to the beach for swimming and walking around the zoo. Others
enjoyed some kind of ball throwing over the nets, football and a little water
balloon tossing. Brownies ran out -- my apologizes to those who didn’t get any
(Next time you’ll be more on the ball and get their quicker!!) And in trying
to keep count of the people who attended with coming and going. I came up
with 18 VW’s in attendance, 10 buses, 3 bugs, 1 conv. bug, 1 squareback, 1
thing, 1 bradley gt, and Ken stopped by with his wonderful EMPI. (sp?)
I came up with 33 people in attendance. And I thought we had a lot of
spectators driving past and checking the VW’s out! After the park we stopped
at Ardy & Ed’s drive in for some ice cream, and then on to Howard’s for
a
little muddy camping. I’ll leave Howard report on the camping since we only
dropped in for a short time. It looked like they were having a lot of fun
though. I see Sherri must have showed up too sometime. I saw Nick and her
leaving Sunday morning! Thanks again to everyone who showed up -- we had a
great time!

The soggy volleyball court |
Well we got around 8 or 9 inches of rain Fri. night with thunder
and
lighting. It did rain all night and part of the next morning. We put up a
portable car port 10x20 ft. We had 9 vw buses Fri. night and Brian Holcom and
wife came down after picnic and stayed the night. We also had a couple of tent
squatters out back. The road got a little muddy in spots and a few were stuck
until the push party arrived. There were a few swimming in the pond and a few
fishing. I oared 5 young children around the pond. We had a few visitor,
Brian,Amy,3 children,Dale Rude, Jenny,kieth and Nick,Nickolas and his baby
boy. We also had new members at the campout. Gary,Dawn and 2 children came down
from Depere in there very nice 71 westy. (Both nights)I put a 19 56- 36 Hp
engine case on the on our camp fire. Going to try a ae,ah or ak the next
time and see which one burns the brightest. Sherri showed up Sat. night in her
very nice 57 oval which she left up by the barn . Sure she will tell us about
the north west stuff. Add it all up and we still had a real good weekend
event.
Howard
We just want to thank Howard and his family for the hospitality
and
help with the bus. Thanks also to everyone else who worked on the picnic
and of course those who helped to push the busses. Our kids (Hallie and
Lake) had a great time and we have plenty of mud for a souveneir.
Gary and Dawn White
I think along with everyone else, had a great time at the
picnic/campout
this weekend. Thanks Howard!

Had a great time at the picnic, although it was too bad that the
volleyball court was flooded. Was looking forward to a game, even though I
am hardly an expert at it. Oh well, maybe next time.
Ardy & Ed's was fun too. I noticed one of the waitresses sneaking looks
at the Vws parked out back. Perhaps the same one who got in the new beetle
and drove off?
Thanks to everyone who made the picnic happen.
Had a good time at Howard's too. The next morning, I washed my bus over
that low spot on my lawn, and got free fill at the same time. (Just kidding,
Howard) Thanks Howard for VW party.

Just wanted to thank Howard, Sr. and Jenny for helping organize
our club's
picnic and campout this weekend. From the looks of Howard's VW Farm when we left
Sunday morning, the diehards had battled the rain and won. I think Nick said it
should be named the first annual mud drags!
After the Chippewa Valley Volkswagen Club's Show in Eau Claire, Ralph (57 Oval)
and I made our way back to New London. I was hoping to make it home early enough
to make it out to Howard's VW Farm to enjoy the last night of camping with the
club. We made pretty good time and I stopped at the house for a moment to check
on things, then was back on the road for the 30
minute drive to Howard's. Ralph was doing just fine and seemed to be enjoying
being out of the shop. I arrived at Howard's around 10 pm and was shocked to
see the mud in the drive to the camping area. Ralph stayed on the dry ground up
by the house and Howard gave me a ride to the campsite down by the pond. I was
pleased to see some of the members were still having a good time and I joined in
until I couldn't fight the sleep bug anymore.
A wonderful weekend even though the weather wasn't the greatest. I was happy to
be able to enjoy each club's festivities. It was great to see everyone again
and to meet new friends.
